Summary
A man in Barra used to foretell the future using animal bones. MacNeil killed a sheep and, when they were having dinner, he gave the shoulder bone to the man and asked him to read it. The man warned MacNeil that if he read it, the chief would not like what he would hear. MacNeil said it would not matter. The man then told him that Uist would be without Clanranald and Barra would be without MacNeil. The chief would not believe him and kicked him, but the man's words were later shown to be correct.

"Seo a-nist," ars esan, "ma tha thu math gu leughadh," ars esan, "leugh sin."
Rug am bodach air agus bha e a' coimhead.
"An-tà, ma leughas mise seo," ars am bodach, "'s olc a chòrdas e riutsa."
"Chan eil e gu diofar," arsa MacNìll. "Leugh a-nist e."
"Uill, tha an slinnean sa ag ràdh, ma-thà," ars am bodach, "gum bi Uibhist agus gun Mhac 'ic Ailein, agus Barraigh gun MhacNìll, agus Caisteal Chìosamuil na [?chàithleach] radan."
"Tha thu breugach," arsa MacNìll, 's e a' toirt breab dhan bhodach.
Agus tha e coltach gun do thachair sin. Tha Uibhist gun Mhac 'ic Ailein agus tha Barraigh gun MhacNìll. Agus bha am bodach ceart gu leòr.
Sin agaibh mar a bha roinn a dh'fhiosachd a' bhodaich.
