Summary
The bard gives information about why this poem was composed. It describes how some Lewis lads, living in a house in Chicago in 1924, left one of their number to do the cooking. He bought a chicken and cooked it, leaving the entrails inside. His companions unfortunately didn't realise this until after they had enjoyed the soup. They were all sick.
