Summary
Anecdote about a journey made uncomfortable by stinginess and misdirection.
The owners of the Locksley had to go to Dundee to oversee repairs to the ship. They were mean, and travelled from Stonehaven by train, getting off and on at different places along the way because it was cheaper. They eventually got to Dundee about dinner-time. They had biscuits to eat, but could not get a cup of tea, and they had an apple each. They were told at the station at Dundee that the ship was at Broughty Ferry, about two and a half miles away, so they went there. When they got there they were told she was actually at a dock three miles away, and they had to go all the way back.
