Summary
Satirical verse from Donald MacLeod (Dòmhnall nan Òran).
Amongst the celebrated bards there was Donald MacLeod (Dòmhnall nan Òran). Many a satirical and sharp verse he composed, had he composed none other than 'Èildearan Dubha an Lòin Mhòir'. As he said of Father Roderick: "Ye who suffer from cold and hunger, avoid Father Roderick's manse. Though he is generous with the gospel, he has little pity for the poor and needy."

Rev. John Anderson: Am measg nam bàrd... nam bàrd iomraiteach, bha Dòmhnall MacLeòid ris an canadh iad Dòmhnall nan Òran. 'S ioma rann sgaiteach, geur a rinn e, ged nach dèanadh e riamh ach 'Èildearan Dubha an Lòin Mhòir', agus mar a thuirt e mu Mhaighstir Ruairidh:
"Thusa air a bheil fuachd 's acras, seachain mansa Mhaighstir Ruairidh
Ged a tha e fialaidh mun t-soisgeul, 's beag a thruas ri bochd 's ri feumach."
