Summary

A teacher who came to Mingulay and married and remained there.

The contributor's mother's teacher was called an Sgoilear Glas. He was a Finlayson from Lochcarron. He was sent to Berneray to teach a shepherd's children. He was forced to spend a night in Mingulay because of bad weather and thought it was more deserving of a teacher. A schoolhouse was built. He married and remained there, although he was not Catholic. He had a good reputation - well-off families in Castlebay would send their children to Mingulay to be taught by him.
