Summary
Nan MacKinnon: school and work.
The contributor went to school in Vatersay aged six. Her aunts moved from Mingulay to Castlebay and she spent some time with them, attending the local school while there. She left home at seventeen and spent a number of years in service for a variety of people in Argyll. She also worked at the herring for a time, in Shetland and Yarmouth before going to Glasgow. Her sister died suddenly during the Second World War. Her youngest child was two years old when she died. The contributor brought the family up.
