Summary

This is a song about emigration. The bard praises the brave people who were driven out. He tells of the distress of the women and children, and speaks with regret about the sight of the deserted houses.

Item Notes

Ten 16-line verses sung. Composed by John MacCodrum. According to 'The Uist Collection', a number of the North Uist tacksmen concocted a scheme to get their sub-tenants to emigrate to North America. They pretended they would accompany them, and sent lots of baggage to the point of embarkation. Only Mr MacDonald of Griminish, who was not part of the plot, actually went.
