The first couplet of this waulking song says "Who is there at the end of my rope? It is me, the fair-haired youth." The second says "Sad am I at this time of winter. It is Halloween and I have no eggs."

2 couplets sung plus 2-line choruses. The second couplet has been sung twice. The song refers to the Halloween custom when a girl would throw a rope over the drying-kiln, and call "Who is at the end of my rope?" The man she loved would answer.
