Summary

Using a knotted string to raise a wind for sailing.

A man went to a witch to get a string with three knots in it, before going to sea. Undoing the first knot would give him a good sailing wind, undoing the second would bring a stronger wind, but he was told that he must not undo the third. He loosened the knot, and the ship was lost.

The story is followed by a discussion of bans and taboos.
