Summary

This is a song by a peasant girl who loves a man who belongs to the landed gentry. Others have warned her about him, but she cannot sleep as she is thinking about him. She is hurt, however, by the suggestion that he gives his love freely to other women, and is not faithful to her.

Item Notes

4-line chorus, followed by 4 quatrains and a chorus. Mary Munro learned the song from Niall a' Ghobha when she lived in Lochmaddy. Neil was a tailor.
