Summary
Kelp work.
Kelp workers had sheilings. They spent between four and six weeks there. The kelp was burnt and taken by horse and cart to Lochboisdale to be weighed. At one time they made troughs and used iron when burning the kelp. Latterly, it was burnt on the ground. Hay for the horses cost a groat per day. The contributor remembers when people stayed at the sheilings. They stopped after the First World War.
