Summary
Gaelic speaking discouraged in an Australian immigrant family.
Mrs MacRae's husband's grandparents were Gaelic speakers, but the next generation in their family was discouraged from using Gaelic. Their parents used it especially when they did not want others to know what they were saying. One of the family married a MacLennan, and in that family the use of Gaelic was encouraged. Mrs MacRae was told this by Auntie Kate MacLennan, herself probably a Gaelic speaker.
