Summary

MacPhee saved from a beast by his black dog.

MacPhee had a black dog that did not work. When asked why he kept it, he said it would prove its worth yet. MacPhee and another man went to Àirigh nan Aonaichean [sheiling], where everyone who stayed there was found dead in the morning. When they went to bed, two beautiful women came in and went to bed with them. MacPhee saw that the woman who was with the other man had turned into a beast and drunk his blood. He fled and she chased him, but his black dog attacked her and he got home safely. His mother told him to put three basins of milk out for the dog, in case it attacked them also. When it came home, it drank the milk and dropped dead. There was no more trouble at Àirigh nan Aonaichean.
