Information about Dr John Beaton and the Livingstones.
John Beaton was MacLean of Duart's doctor. He was the only doctor on Mull. He had connections with the church on Iona. He grew medicinal plants in his garden at Pennyghael. The Beatons were known as Livingstones. They changed the name after Culloden, where they carried the Appin banner. They fled after Culloden and one of them, Niall Mòr, came to Ulva. He was Dr Livingstone's grandfather. He married the contributor's great-great-aunt. Another brother went to Morvern.
