Summary
A story about witches who killed three young men.
Shepherds stayed in a remote bothy at shearing time. MacPhee and his three sons were out there once. One night the boys went to bed and a woman appeared. She was about the size of a six year-old and sat by the fire. She began to grow and she told MacPhee to lie down. MacPhee's black dog began to stir. She asked him to keep the dog at bay. He said the black dog's day was yet to come. The cock crew. Supernatural creatures couldn't be out after that time and the woman left. She was followed by three others. MacPhee set the black dog after them and there was a great fight. The dog returned and fell dead at the door. The boys were dead, with wounds in their throats where the witches [vampires] had drunk their blood. The contributor heard the story from his mother.
