Summary
The stone used for building Amhuinnsuidhe Castle came from Berneray.
John Angus MacKillop from Berneray relates how the stone used for building Amhuinnsuidhe Castle came from a quarry on Berneray. The quarry is located above the harbour. The stone was used for the entire frontage of the castle, although the rest came from Ayrshire. This happened in the nineteenth century. The War Memorial in Tarbert is also made from stone from the quarry.
