Summary
Shepherds, cowherds, and livestock.
Every township had a herdboy, usually a boy newly out of school. He worked during the summer, and was paid five pounds and a fleece. The shepherd had a small croft, and the other crofters did his ploughing and planting for him.
The contributor gives the commands he used on the dogs and cattle; most of these are English. He has 44 head of cattle, each one named, eg. Polly and Daisy.
A method of wool-sharing is mentioned.
