Summary

A short song in which the singer recalls punishment received as a child:

Oh weel do I mind the day when I was but a bairn,
The lickins that I used tae get when I did ony hairm.
My mither she wis very strict, though loving, kind and good
And she made me aye behave masel as aa bairnies should.

Oh sometimes she wid tak her hand, sometimes she took the cane,
Sometimes she put me ben the hoose [i.e. into the other room] mysel tae bide [stay] alane,
Sometimes she took a rope in hand and clasped me roond the jaws,
But I'd raither hae the lickin wi the aul pair o tawse.
