Summary
Brownies working at a mill went away when food was left for them.
A miller could not carry on working the mill himself and could not afford to take on a young man to help. He was worried, and thought he'd have to give up the business. Then one morning he found all the work done. One night he hid behind some sacks to see who was doing the work. It was six or seven brownies. The miller told his wife, and they thought they should give the brownies some food, as they were working so hard. They left out bread and cheese for them. The brownies went away, saying, "He's paid me off," and never came back.
