Summary - Bird superstitions in the Highlands and Islands.

The contributor gives an account of some of the superstitions regarding birds, to which the Highlanders gave credence at one time. There are examples of their speech, their connections with death and weather, and an account is given of how they came to have feathers.

The following birds are mentioned: lark; thrush; pigeon; seagull; cockerel; cuckoo; raven; goose; owl; starling. Moreover, a certain supernatural bird is mentioned. It used to be seen shortly before a death.
