Summary
Joining the army in the First World War.
The contributor says he was in the militia before the First World War and chose to join the army rather than the navy. He thought that would be better than having to climb up a ship's mast at night. He and other Grimsay men whom he knew joined the Lovat Scouts. He describes how they agreed to fight as an infantry regiment, and how sad it was to part with their horses.
