Summary
In Egypt during the First World War.
The contributor describes how his regiment was moved from Greece to Egypt, and of the various places to which the war took him, this was the one which impressed him the most. He describes the equipment used by the people to draw water from the Nile to irrigate their land, and talks about their crops. He also discusses the religion of the people, and mentions one village in which no-one lived, as there was nothing there but mosques. He describes how the people were buried, not lying down, but as if sitting up.
