Cabbage and turnips would be stolen on Halloween. If a woman pulled up a cabbage, her future husband would be the same shape as the stalk, e.g. bent, thin, etc. If, when it was pulled, there was plenty of soil around it, her husband would be rich; if there was none he would be poor.
