Summary
Man's love song for his sweetheart, Peggy. He rebukes shepherds with their tartan plaids, and wealthy farmers for trying to steal her away from him. He cares nothing for wealth, and says that she has his heart, and will soon have his hand.
Item Notes
This is the rare original version of this song. Most versions have been conflated with the seduction and abandonment song 'When I was Noo but Sweet Sixteen' (Roud Folk Song Index no. 5138), also known as 'Hishie Ba' (Roud 3449).
