    • To enable TAD to add your and/or your next-of-kin’s recording(s) to its website.
    • To enable TAD to contact you to ask permission to use your and/or your next-of-kin’s recording(s) for promotional purposes, such as community events and promotional CDs.
  1. To send you information/news about TAD where you have given permission for TAD to do so.

  • You have given consent for the use.
  • Use is necessary for the purposes of legitimate interest pursued by us or a third party.

The processing is undertaken under the legitimate interest of: Tobar an Dualchais, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, School of Scottish Studies (University of Edinburgh), BBC Alba and the National Trust for Scotland.

Summary of legitimate interest: Processing of data is essential in order for TAD to be able to put recordings on its website.

TAD only keeps only the most essential of data for processing, such as contact details and permission documents for the contributors and/or next-of-kin. TAD does not process any sensitive data. TAD does not process any more data than is necessary.

If you were to withhold the personal information we require for this process, the consequences would be:

TAD may be unable to put your and/or your next-of-kin’s recording(s) on its website.

Your data will, or may, be shared with the following recipients or categories of recipient:

  • School of Scottish Studies (University of Edinburgh) for recordings in which they have a copyright.
  • BBC Alba for recordings in which they have a copyright.
  • National Trust for Scotland for recordings in which they have a copyright

Your data will be retained for the following length of time:

TAD will keep your personal data for no longer than reasonably necessary. Information supplied by contributors or their next-of-kin will be kept for up to 70 years from the date of the earliest recording(s), in compliance with copyright guidelines.

Tobar an Dualchais complies with its obligations under the GDPR by keeping personal data up to date where practical; by storing and destroying it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data; by protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and disclosure and by ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data.

  • The right to rectification if the personal data we hold about you is incorrect
  • The right to restrict processing of your personal data
