Cow-hide rivlins and other shoes and clothes.

Title - Cow-hide rivlins and other shoes and clothes.
Contributors - Laura Malcolmson
Reporters - Alan J. Bruford

Summary - Cow-hide rivlins and other shoes and clothes.

The contributor describes making rivlins [cow-hide bag shoes], which she wore as a child. The rivlins were dried and cured and worn with the hair out. People made their own rivlins but they could also be bought in the shop. She also had clogs as a child but they were more of a novelty. They were warm, with a thick wooden sole.

The best clothes, including shoes and boots, were kept for Sunday. They had to be cleaned on Saturday night.
