Summary - A Wigtownshire character.

Jacob MacCulloch was a local character who lived near Luce Bay. He wore a cool [i.e. cowl], with his hair tied back in a bun. He was a very religious man who had trained as a schoolteacher but was crossed in love. He sold a few vegetables and playthings, and people would invite him in and give him a meal. One time a seal was washed up and Jacob cut it up and rubbed himself all over with seal fat to keep the cold out. It was said that he had a tree growing up the middle of his house on which he hung his jugs and utensils.
