Summary - In this song the author says that he is sad since he cannot see his darling. He left her in Rannoch and if he was only a night's walk away from her he would often visit her. But he doesn't want the others to see him on the road. He has to care for cattle and his master would know that he had gone. He then praises the girl for her beauty and says that he will not change his opinion of her.
