Title - Cleachdadh ann an Uibhist a Deas.
Contributors - Christina MacKay
Reporters - Donald Archie MacDonald

Summary - A tradition in South Uist.

When the fire went out in a house, people in South Uist used to go to their neighbour's house for a firebrand. They would not give the firebrand if there was a toothless child in the house as they considered this to be unlucky for the child.

The contributor knows of an occasion when a firebrand was refused in Carnan because there was a toothless child in the house.
