Biography

1858-1944
Born and raised in Bruernish, Barra. He was a crofter and fisherman who knew a large number of songs, recorded frequently by John Lorne Campbell who describes him in his book 'Gaelic Folksongs from the Isle of Barra'. Father of Captain Donald Joseph (an Eòsag) (ID 519), Kate Buchanan (ID 736), and uncle of Miss Janet MacKinnon (ID 4816).
