New Update to TAD website
New updates to the Tobar an Dualchais/Kist o Riches (TAD) website have now been completed and have gone live.
The search has been revamped with users now able to filter results by genre (song, story, information etc), collection, language and date. These filters will make searching much simpler for the various user groups engaging with the website. For example, Gaelic singers wishing to access transcribed recordings of songs, need only enter ’transcript’, select Gaelic and songs, and over 300 songs will be returned.
A more user-friendly player with soundwaves and speed controls has also been added. This makes scrolling on recordings and close listening far easier, which is essential for those transcribing recordings.
Other improvements include links within the track page to all other tracks on a single tape. Also, there are now linked classification numbers within the track page for Scots songs. Classification numbers allow users to find songs even if they have been listed with alternative names.
Back by popular demand is the lucky dip feature which allows users to select a recording at random, a great way to see the breadth of recordings and also to find tracks that may not be familiar to users.
Floraidh Forest, Director of TAD, commented: “These updates to the site will enhance the functionality of the website and offer an improved experience for users. With over 46,000 recordings and over 1,200 transcriptions it is essential that we make our database as searchable as possible, and these updates will go a way towards achieving this. Looking ahead, we plan to improve our databases’ location search capabilities.”
These changes have been made possible thanks to funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
