Summary
Origin of the name Murray.
The Murrays fought with Wallace and with Bruce. The descendants of Freskin took a territorial name, Murray, from Morayshire. It is now said that Freskin was descended from the Mormaers, the ancient kings of the province. But there is a lack of historical records, since so many were destroyed at the Reformation.
Item Notes
William de Moravia [of Moray], the first recorded user of the name, in 1203, was the son of one Freskin.
