Anns an òran seo tha am bàrd a' gabhail tàladh dhan nighinn aige agus ag iarraidh oirre a bhith a' cadal sàmhach 's iad a-nis ann an àite ùr. 'S ann an Ameireaga a tha iad a-nis, fo dhubhar na coille gruamaich. Nuair a dh'fhalbhas an geamhradh thig am blàths agus bidh cnothan, ùbhlan agus siùcar a' fàs. 'S beag air na daoine anns an àite. Tha e a' cur fàilte gu Cinn Tàile far an deach àrach òg.
Notaichean a' Chlàir
5 verses. Text transcribed in the School of Scottish Studies. Composed by Iain mac Mhurchaidh (John MacRae) of Kintail, who emigrated to South Carolina in 1774, to his baby daughter shortly after they arrived in the new world. He was recruited for the Royal Highland Emigrants regiment and was present at the ambush at Moore's Creek Bridge. He was eventually captured by the enemy and held in captivity for some time, where he was apparently badly treated and died.
