Biography
John Campbell (Seonaidh mac Dhòmhnaill 'ic Iain Bhàin) was born in 1859 in South Lochboisdale, South Uist. He was a prominent local bard, his songs being transcribed by John MacInnes (Iain Pheadair 'ic Sheumais) and published in 1936 by John Lorne Campbell in the book 'Òrain Ghàidhlig le Seonaidh Caimbeul, the Gaelic Songs of Shony Campbell, the South Lochboisdale bard'.
John was recorded in 1935 in Glasgow by John Lorne Campbell for the BBC, who were collecting examples of languages and dialects from across Britain at the time. His recording is among the earliest recordings available on the Tobar an Dualchais website.
