Coinneach MacÌomhair (CM): Madainn Diluain chuala sinn Seumas MacÌomhair à Tong a' cuimhneachadh air na h-itealain a bha a' frithealadh Port-adhair Steòrnabhaigh aig àm an Dara Cogaidh. Dh'fhaighnich e mu fhear à Nis a fhuair an George Medal airson mar a rinn e nuair a bha tubaist aig aon dhe na h-itealain. Bha e a' faighneachd an robh e beò. Uill, tha fiosrachadh againn mu dheidhinn sin a-nis, oir còmhla rium tha Tormod Mac a' Ghobhainn. Madainn mhath, a Thormoid.

Tormod Mac a' Ghobhainn (TM): Madainn mhath, a Choinnich.

CM: Cò... cò am fear à Nis mun robh sinn a' bruidhinn an seo?

TM: Bha Ailig, fear ris an canadh sinne Ailig John Bhilly, Ailig John Nicholson. 'S ann à Lìonail ann a sheo 's ann a bha athair. 'S ann an Sgiogartaigh a chaidh e fhèin a thogail, agus 's ann à Sgiogartaigh a dh'fhalbh e nuair a dh'fhalbh e às an sgìre, agus mar thoradh air a sin, tha an dealbh aige, tha beachd agad gun do rinn sinn roll of honour ann a... bho Nis gu Beàrnaraigh, agus tha dealbh... dealbh Ailig John ann am measg balaich Sgiogartaigh anns an roll of honour a tha sin.

CM: Tha fiosrachadh agaibh mu dheidhinn an nì a rinn e aig a' phort-adhair airson an t-aigeallan a tha seo a chosnadh cuideachd, nach eil?

TM: Tha, tha. Chuir a phiuthar thugamsa... nuair a bha sinn a' deasachadh an roll of honour a bha sin, chuir a phiuthar thugam rudan a bh' aice fhèin timcheall air a sin, agus tha iad agam ann a sheo. Man a fhuair e fhèin am medal a bha seo, nuair a bha... nuair a bha an tubaist aig an aeroplane a bha seo anns an robh e ann an Steòrnabhagh.

CM: Agus tha e ag innse ann an seo an dearbh rud a rinn e air a' phìos pàipeir a th' agaibh air mo bheulaibh ann an sin an-dràsta, agus mar a bha e anns an London Gazette, an ann?

TM: 'S ann. Anns an London Gazette. A bheil thu ag iarraidh seo a leughadh, a Choinnich, dhut? Leughaidh mi e dìreach man a tha e. Award promulgated in London Gazette dated thirty-first October nineteen forty-one. George Medal. Pilot Officer Alexander John Nicholson, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. In August nineteen forty-one, this officer was a passenger in an aircraft which was involved in a collision when taking off and crashed. The aircraft immediately caught fire but Pilot Officer Nicholson managed to get clear. He remembered that when the plane crashed someone in the wireless compartment had been thrown across him. Ammunition and pyrotechnics were exploding and the whole front of the aircraft was in flames, but Pilot Officer Nicholson, with complete disregard for his own safety, re-entered and, making his way forward, found the wireless operator, whom he managed to drag to the door, when an explosion occurred which blew Pilot Officer Nicholson a distance of twenty yards. The wireless operator was finally extracted by others, but without doubt, his life was saved by Pilot Officer Nicholson's gallantry in the first instance.

CM: Chaidh e a-null a Chanada.

TM: Chaidh. Chaidh e a-null a Chanada. 'S ann a... 's ann an Canada a bha e aig an àm a bha seo, ach 's ann an Canada a rinn an teaghlach an dachaigh às dèidh... às dèidh seo, às dèidh a' chogaidh.
