Summary
Thatched houses.
There were many thatched houses when the contributor was young. He saw houses with the fire in the middle of the floor. They were very smoky. Fish such as herring, salmon and dogfish were hung in the smoke to cure. Mention of an old sailor's house where the cattle lived in one end.
