Summary

The healing stones of St Fillan; mill where they are kept closed on St Fillan's Day.

The eight healing stones of St Fillan lie [1964] in a niche in the mill, on a bed of wrack [river weed] from the River Dochart. This bed is changed annually on Christmas Eve and the old wrack thrown back into the river. The mill is always closed on St Fillan's Day, 20th January. Not many local people take an interest in the stones, and the younger generation know nothing about them, but Graham Wilson feels it is important to keep up the tradition. If he ever had to sell the mill he would contact the Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh about the stones.

Item Notes

The mill is now the Breadalbane Folklore Centre in Killin, and the stones are on view there (2009).
