Butter and cheese from the sheilings in North Uist.
Butter from the sheilings in North Uist was kept in crocks - sealed clay jars. Milk was set in wooden vessels [miosairean] - butter washed in these also. Cheese was packed in strong cloth. Butter was preserved by salting and would last through the winter. Cheese was also salted, and dried.
