Summary
Gaelic in church in Killin; denominations.
There used to be a United Free Church and a Church of Scotland in Killin, and preaching was occasionally in Gaelic. Mr MacKay, the minister when Bill Walker was a boy, was a Gaelic speaker and was fond of Gaelic songs. The last minister, Mr Thomson, was also a Gaelic speaker, but Mr Colquhoun, minister in 1964, was not. No Gaelic was used in Killin churches by 1964. There was no Catholic church in Killin. Mr Walker knew of only one Catholic family in the area. There was an Episcopal Church, which was quite well attended since the Hydro-electric scheme had brought in some English people. The rector from Callander, Mr Irvine, preached there.
