Summary
Just before he leaves to see his sweetheart Maggie, Willie's nose bleeds. His mother asks him not to go, but he does and crosses the wild Clyde waters. Maggie refuses to let him in, and he rides back to the Clyde. The force of the water knocks him from his horse. Maggie wakens and says she has had a dream that Willie came and she refused him entry.
John Strachan then recalls the verse where Willie's brother urges him to grab his horse, and he remembers that Maggie throws herself in the water also.
He had the ballad from Jimmy Pratt, who used to sing at the meal-and-ales [harvest celebrations].
