Summary
Jimmy MacBeath sang at fairs for money for drink.
Jimmy MacBeath sang at feeing markets (fairs at which farm workers were hired), especially at Maud. He would begin with ordinary songs then sing bawdy or scurrilous songs when he was sure the police were not around. Dubious things were also sold when the police were not looking. As soon as he had enough money Jimmy MacBeath would go into the tent for a drink. He had a strange voice that was sometimes difficult to make out. There were cheapjacks at the fairs, and bands were recruited there too.
