Summary
A laird vaunts his strength but meets his match.
There was a laird, who had no marra [match] for strength. He went to a poor smith who was new in the village to have his horse shod. Each shoe the smith tried, the laird broke it in two, until all the iron was used up. He took the last shoe and was charged 2/6d [two shillings and sixpence, a half crown]. The smith said the coin was no use, and broke it in two. He continued till the laird's last half crown. The laird admitted that he had found his marra.
