Seaweed fertiliser and creels.

Seaweed was used as manure. The shore was divided up. Crofters gathered the seaweed and made it into piles; they apportioned them by casting lots. The contributor can remember old women cutting feamainn-chìreagach. It was used as fertiliser prior to potato planting. He gives a description of this seaweed, which was cut with sickles.

Women carried seaweed in creels on their backs. A description of the creels, which were made by the men from willow rods. This creel was also used for taking home peats.
