Summary

Girls saw a fairy hillock open and a woman chased them away.

There is a hill behind Keppoch House which is said to be a fairy hillock. One night young girls tending cattle at a sheiling saw the fairy hillock open and went to look inside. There was beautiful music, dancing and lights coming from it as they approached. They were descending Cnoc Pheadair when a woman appeared above them clapping her hands and saying, "crodh anns a' choirce". They rushed back to the sheiling. The cattle were lying where they had left them and the fairy hillock was closed.

Calum MacIllEathain (CM): Uill a-nist, bha mi a' dol a dh'fhaighneachd, dhibh, a bheil sìtheanan sam bith timcheall an seo?

William MacDonald (WM): Tha.

CM: Agus a bheil naidheachd agad [?mu dheidhinn] daoine a chaidh an toir a-staigh a shìtheanan no rud sam bith mar sin? Fuaimeannan a bha iad a' cluinntinn, no mnathan-sìth a' tighinn a dh'iarraidh iasad no dad mar sin, no iad a' goid leanaban, no pìobairean-sìth, no cnoc sìthein?

WD: Ò tha. Tha cnoc thall aig cùl Taigh na Ceapaich ann a shin, 's e an Sìthean a th' air. 'S e. Sìthean.

CM: Ò feumaidh gun robh na sìthichean an sin, ma-thà?

WD: Bha. Bha iad an seo. Bha iad an seo. Nigheanan òga a bh' ann... ò, bha sa chiad linn... chan eil fhios agamsa... chan eil fhios agamsa dè linn a bh' ann, ach bha iad treis mhòr ann co-dhiù. Bha iad, an uair ud, bhiodh iad a' falbh suas fad an t-samhraidh 's an fhoghair suas dhan mhonadh leis a' chrodh, 's bha iad gam... bha iad gam buachailleachd ann an sin fad an t-samhraidh 's an fhoghair. 'S e... 's e... a' fuireach ann an àite ris an abradh iad Bothag na h-Fàiridh - sheiling. Agus bha iad an oidhche a bha seo ag aire a' chruidh, agus bha an crodh nan laighe a' chnàmh chìre ann an sin cho brèagha 's a chunna tu riamh, 's bha na h-igheanan nan suidhe 's chunnaic iad an sìthean fosgailte, solas ann, 's:

"Ò," thuirt iad, "thèid sinn a choimhead feuch dè tha san t-sìthean," thuirt iad.

A-mach a ghabh iad.

"Tha an crodh nan laighe 's cha ghluais iad gus an till sinn."

Agus a-mach a ghabh iad agus ò, bha an ceòl bu bhrèagha a chuala tu riamh 's an dannsadh 's an solas anns an t-sìthean 's iad ga fhaicinn 's iad a' teannachd air, 's a' teannachd air, 's a' teannachd air. Bho dheireadh, tha cnoc ann far a bheil an eaglais againne an-diugh, tha cnoc ann an sin, 's Cnoc Pheadair a th' aca air. Tharraing iad sìos an cnocan sin agus bha iad dìreach aig bonn pàirce a tha sin ris an abair iad Glac [?Sòmaig] agus thàinig boireannach bhos an cionn 's i a' bualadh a basan mar siud:

"Crodh sa choirce, crodh sa choirce, crodh sa choirce."

"Ò ghiall," thuirt iadsan, "feumaidh sinn tilleadh. Tha an crodh sa choirce."

Thill iad 's an anail nan uchd. Bhrist iad an cridhe, agus dar a ràinig iad far an robh an crodh, bha an crodh nan laighe far an iad roimhe 's a' cnàmh chìre, 's bha an sìthean dùinte.

Tha sin cho cinnteach agus a tha mise ga innse dhutsa an-ceartuair.

CM: Glè mhath. Shin agaibh naidheachd mhath.

WM: Tha i sin cho cinnteach 's a tha mise nam shuidhe ann an seo.
