Summary
A neugle was caught and used to plough at Tingwall.
A neugle is what in the Western Isles is called a kelpie [water horse]. There is a story that someone once caught a neugle from the loch of Neugles Water above Scalloway and chained the beast to the standing stone at the Loch of Asta. The neugle was used instead of a horse for ploughing the lands of Garth alongside the Loch of Tingwall. The mark of the chain around the standing stone can still be seen. Ertie Irvine does not know when this is supposed to have happened.
