Summary
A skipper changed the course of a sailing boat after an apparition appeared in the chart room.
Two apprentices who were sent to the chart room of a ship saw an old man there whom they did not recognise. The compass course written on the slate had been changed to south-west by south. The skipper of the boat changed the direction of the boat accordingly. At daybreak they saw a disabled vessel ahead. On board was the old man who had been seen in the chart room. The apprentices rescued him.
