Summary
A story about drovers inadvertently playing cards with the Devil.
Allan Walker gives the Gaelic pronunciation of Balquhidder.
Highland drovers used to stop at the King's House Inn, Balquhidder, on their way to the Falkirk Tryst. A stranger came in one stormy night while a group of drovers were playing cards. He asked to join their game and had great luck. Then one drover noticed that the stranger had cloven hooves. The drover shouted, "E fhein, e fhein!" [himself], and upturned the table. They had been playing cards with the Devil, who then disappeared.
