Summary
A comic Irish song describing a farcical attempt to enter Delaney's lazy donkey in the half-mile race. The singer lists all those who try to get the donkey to shift, to no avail. The group eventually carry the beast to the winning line, and the bookmakers commit suicide.
Wattie Wright heard the song in a music hall, but learned Val Doonican's version from the radio.
