Summary
A carrier died of shock after giving a lift in his cart to the Devil.
A carrier who went every day from Kinmuck near Hatton of Fintray to Aberdeen was coming home late one night. He gave a man a lift in his cart. As soon as the man got in, the horses refused to move. The man did not speak, and the carrier noticed he had a cloven foot. The horses moved on with great difficulty until they came to a bridge, where the man jumped off and disappeared in a flash of light. The carrier then noticed his passenger also had a tail. When he got home the carrier felt ill with shock and went to bed. When his wife brought him a cup of tea she found him dead.
