Summary
Halloween and New Year.
At Halloween, a sheepskin or cowskin would be carried from house to house. A rhyme was chanted, after which bannocks, bread and other food was given. They would have a party, during which games such as ducking for apples and fortune-telling would be played. The contributor remembers being in Eriskay at Halloween in 1916, whilst they were buying a boat.
New Year was kept on the 12th or 13th of January. A shinty match was played, where the different townships took part.
